On Saturday: Legend of the Seeker

Legend of the SeekerEp. “Deception”

In this adventure of the Seeker, Richard Cypher has to infiltrate a D’Haran garrison that is housing a new deadly weapon called a “Whisperer” that is able to silently kill anyone within a league of its location. In the episode, Kahlan and Richard come across a band of soldiers from the Resistance and collaborate with them to infiltrate the garrison and steal a Whisperer to use against the D’Harans.

However, the plan turns sour when Kahlan find out that the Resistance wants to use the Whisperer against an entire city of civilians. Also, Richard grows close to the D’Haran commander and he realizes that the enemy are still people too. They have families, children and problems just like the rest of them.

In the end, Kahlan and Richard have to fight off the D’Harans and the Resistance and stop the detonation of a Whisperer in a loyalist city. It was a good episode but not as good as the last two, but I think the future holds some good gems.

On Saturday: Legend of the Seeker & Kings (from Hulu)

Legend of the SeekerEp. “Bloodline”

This episode is supposed to center around the group trying to keep the Box of Orden away from Darken Rahl while also revealing Zeddicus Z’ul’s true connection to Richard Cypher. I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet since I had to get caught up with “Conversion” but now that I have seen it I should be able to watch the new episode shortly and amend this post.

In relation to “Conversion,” it was quite the episode. To watch Kahlan go into a “blood rage” was insane and totally AWESOME!! She could confess people without even touching them and move things with her mind. I can’t wait to see this new one.

KingsEp. “Goliath”

So due to DVR ridiculousness and my very busy week, I didn’t get to watch the Kings premiere until today. Thank God for Hulu! Now that I have seen it, I am so sad that I waited so long since it aired to watch it. IT WAS AMAZING! The drama seemed real and relatable, the obvious tie to the Biblical story of David was well executed and the modern take on an ancient monarch was quite interesting. To have the story of David play out in a modern, technologically- and culturally-advanced country was completely unique and worked perfectly.

Here is the basic synopsis of this two-hour premiere:

King Silas Benjamin is the well-entrenched king of Gilboa, whose flag bears a divine butterfly symbol. Gilboa has its capital in Shiloh, a clean new city that is unspoiled by time or litter. They describe that the city of Shiloh rose from the ashes of war and separation to become a clean and glorious metropolis. However, Silas must deal with the tensions rising between Gilboa and neighboring nation, Gath. When several prisoners of war are taken, a young soldier from the country, David Shepherd, defies orders and crosses enemy lines to save them. Unknown to David, the soldier he saves is Jack Benjamin, the son of the king. From that day forth, David’s life will never be the same as he become the new hero of Gilboa. By the end of the episode, David is somewhat attributed to ending the war with Gath twice even though corporate giants don’t want the profit-gaining war to end, and David is given the “sign from God” that he will be the next king, even though he doesn’t know it yet.

In the end, I thought the show was bold, a bit bizzare, and completely intriguing. It made me want to immediate see the next episode and I have high hopes for its future. Unofurtunately it didn’t get great ratings so I need people to watch this so it doesn’t get cancelled.

On Saturday: Legend of the Seeker

Legend of the SeekerEp. “Hartland”

In this episode, Richard and Kahlan return to the Hartland to help defeat the forces of Darken Rahl who have taken over their town. When they arrive, they find out that Richard’s brother is working alongside the Viceroy, who is controlling the township.

While they are there, Anna (Rickard’s old love interest) was working to uncover the disappearance of her brother and, with the help of Richard, find out that he, along with a large group of villagers, has been captured by the Daharans and then fed to the Gars (winged creatures) that plague the forest. Richard, Kahlan, Anna and Chase, now with the help of Richard’s brother, defeat the Daharans and use Kahlan’s confession ability to have a message sent to Darken Rahl. As of now, Darken Rahl believes the Seeker is dead!

Also, Chase discovers that his wife and children have been transported to a Keep in the Midlands that is guarded by powerful magic. The Seeker, Kahlan and Chase now move towards their location with the boundary sealed once more. It looks like there is no returning home for any of them.

So this episode was a good one and the plot to destroy Darken Rahl progressed nicely. The one thing that I don’t know if anyone else thought about what the timing. Did anyone realize that Chase somehow caught up with Richard and Kahlan after they had been travelling for what seemed to be weeks (maybe months) towards Darken Rahl, and then, they were all able to return to the Hartland, negating the weeks of travel for the quest, in a seemingly short period of time? So, basically, Richard and Kahlan have moved back to square one in their quest. Right?!

On Saturday: Legend of the Seeker

Legend of the SeekerEp. “Revenant”

So this is kind of my guilty pleasure. I happened upon it one night at 3 in the morning and have been oddly hooked ever since. It airs at a strange time (4 pm central) on the CW so it doesn’t conflict with any of my Saturday night plans. The plot is a pretty derivative fantasy story: a small town boy is prophesied to defeat the great wizard tyrant and is joined by two companions who follow him on his quest. (Of course!)

The production value is very good. It was filmed in New Zealand so it had that whole “Lord of the Rings” feel to it. The special effects are pretty mediocre though.

This week, the “fellowship” heads to the Tomb of Kieran (a former Seeker) to hide the third piece of the Box of Orden, but while completing this task, Richard is possessed by Kieran’s spirit. After this, new light it shed on the legendary past of the former Seeker: oppression, love, hate, resentment, revenge, dishonor. Later, Kahlan’s body is possessed by Vivian (former Confessor) and Zeddicus Z’ul has to figure out how to remove the spirits from their possessed bodies and get them out of the tomb within which they are trapped.

It definitely wasn’t the most exciting episode to date, but it did put the theoretical cost of fulfilling one’s destiny into question. And make us contemplate the price of abandoning one’s duty in the pursuit of love?
