On Friday: Dollhouse

DollhouseEp. “Grey Hour”

There is an aspect about this show that I really find fascinating. Basically, just like real life experiments, the Dollhouse organization truly doesn’t know the long term effects of their process on their “actives” and that they are learning about their patterns and behaviors while we, the audience, are.

This episode was a pretty good one. In it Echo is turned into a master burglar in charge of an antiquities heist. The part that made the episode interesting, however, was when Echo is remotely wiped and enters her “tabula raza” state while locked inside the vault. I have to give Eliza Dusku props because she did a great job at shifting acting personas so easily. In the end, she obviously gets out of the vault (thanks to a smoke bomb) and returned to the Dollhouse wiped clean of her robbery exploits.

It turns out that Echo’s wipe is traced back to the rogue “active,” Alpha. The upper management of the Dollhouse told the other workers that Alpha was taken care of after he massacred a number of people and then broke out of the complex, but as an audience, we have know that it was a lie for a while. Topher realizes Alpha’s involvement in the incident and, as such, receives a higher security clearance. Only time will tell if we get to learn more.

I think as the show progresses, there is going to be one big problem. As of now, the only characters the audience care about are Echo and her handler, Boyd. Characters like Topher, Victor, Peter and Sierra are not seen enough to really make anyone care if something happened to them. Although after this week, I think they may start working on this.

Great episode. Great show. Great end to the long week.

On Wednesday: Idol, Lost, Damages & Top Chef Reunion

American IdolEp. “3 Finalists Chosen”

So after last night’s questionable performances, tonight’s result shows was geared up to be quite the guessing game. Who will move on to the Top 12 from the final set of 36? Who is going to have to hope for a Wild Card spot? As a reminder, my prediction was for Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre and Felicia Barton (possibly). Also, does anyone hate the choreographed segments as much as I do? They pick good songs but they are made SOOO CHEESY that I can’t stand them!

So here is who made it through…

Lil Rounds

Lil Rounds

Scott MacIntyre

Scott MacIntyre

Jorge Nunez

Jorge Nunez

I guess my predictions were still pretty on point. I knew that the third spot from this weeks competitors was up for grabs, and the Puerto Rican, Jorge Nunez, was able to take hold of it.

Tomorrow we get the Wild Card round of American Idol, and the contestants who were selected for an additional audition are: Von Smith, Jasmine Murray, Ricky Braddy, Megan Corkrey, Tatiana Del Toro, Matt Giraud, Jesse Langseth and Anoop Desai.

LostEp. “LaFleur”

With this week’s episode, I was hoping a few questions would be answered, especially some of the ones that were presented last week. Instead, they start the episode with a whole new batch of them. What is with the apparent Anubis statue? Is it related to the “monster’s” lair we saw two weeks ago? Why is Sawyer the Head of Security for the Dharma Initiative now? Did the time travelling group end up in the past and decide to infiltrate the Dharma camp?

Apart from adding more questions, this episode was really an empty one. Obviously, the group does enter the Dharma Initiative community and begins to develop a life there. The one real point of interest is this new love between Juliet and Sawyer. It seems he is always able to steal Jack’s ladies. Also, we find out that Sawyer has gotten over Kate. Or has he?

Top ChefEp. “Season 5 Reunion”

So this year, the reunion wasn’t that eventful. Even with the rivalry between Hosea and Stephan, there didn’t seem to be much stuff for the cast to discuss. Of course they discussed Hosea’s journey to the title, highlights from the judge’s table and awesome Carla moments. They did bring up a few interesting things though. They talked about this “Birthday Curse.” Apparently there were a large number of contestants eliminated on (or around) their birthday this season. Also, they had to discuss the budding relationship between Hosea and Leah. I honestly think they are gross together and don’t care what the do. I can say though that I think this year’s contestants were the most creative in the Stew Room…Glad Wrap Volleyball, what?! And the one part of the reunion that you need to know. Who is the Fan Favorite? The winner is…

Top Chef Fan Favorite - Fabio Viviani

Top Chef Fan Favorite - Fabio Viviani

I love this show and Season 5 was definitely another great season. I cannot wait for the next season. I also cannot wait for NBC and Lifetime to get out of litigation so that we can have another season of Project Runway. Come one, the finale has already been taped!

DamagesEp “You Got Your Prom Date Pregnant”

I just start with saying that I love the structure of this show. With many of the dramas on TV today, especially the ones dealing with the law, the show has these small storylines for each episode and then an overarching storyline. With Damages, the entire show is the latter, and I think it is better for it. You are almost obligated to watch every episode in order to stay on top of it. Also, with their flashes to the end of the season, the intrigue is nearly unbearable. Way to go FX for creating such an awesome show.

For the episode, not to much really happens to progress the story. Patty decides to attack the FBI after the death of Uncle Pete and the investigation of Patty is put into question when no evidence of the case file can be found. Also, Detective Messer tells Wes to “eliminate” Ellen. We will have to find out later if he goes through with it.

On Tuesday: American Idol & Housewives

So this is yet another week without the Aussie awesomeness that is Simon Baker in The Mentalist. We, however, did get more shows than last Tuesday since the President isn’t taking up all the primetime slots.

American IdolEp. “Third 12 of 36”

The final set of 12 contestants performed to get a spot in the Top 12. This week’s contestants were very promising; a lot of them were ones I wanted to get through during the early audition rounds.

Von Smith: Performed “You’re All I Need to Get By” by Marvin Gaye. I thought the performance was alright. He performed the song well but I don’t agree that it was as good as the judges thought.

Taylor Vaifanua: Performed “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. I think she performed the song well, definitely a better performance in my opinion than Von Smith’s. My only issue with it is that she selected a song that is so “trademarked” by an artist. Alicia Keys has a very distinct tone and originality in her music and to try and recreate it is something that doesn’t really work.

Alex Wagner-Trugman: Performed “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues” by Elton John. I really didn’t get the gruntal portions of the song, and boy did I laugh when he knocked over the mic stand. I don’t believe it was a performance that will get him through to the Top 12. The only chance he has is if the ladies find his dorkiness cute. Pity vote if you will.

Arianna Afsar: Performed “The Winner Takes It All” by ABBA. She is just as cute as a button! Also, she decided to enter a new world for American Idol by being the first person in Idol history to perform a song by the Swedish pop giant. The only issue I had with her performance was that it seemed a bit theatrical, like she was auditioning for Mamma Mia!. Her vocals were a also a little pitchy at times and kind of gloomy. I didn’t think it was as bad as the judges thought.

Ju’not Joyner: Performed “Hey There Delilah” by The Plain White Tees. I am not going to lie, I am a bit tired of hearing this song on American Idol after Hollywood week. Also, his rendition of the song was very boring. I do give him props for trying to give it an R&B vibe though.

Kristen McNamara: Performed “Give Me One Reason” by Tracy Chapman. What was she wearing during her performance? She looked like she was getting ready to attend a Catholic school dance in 1993. Her performance was good though. I didn’t realize that she could hit a note that high.

Nathaniel Marshall : Performed “I Will Do Anything For Love” by Meatloaf. This man’s voice and image do not mix. He’s an Indy “scene” kid who has a serious theatrical voice and flamboyant stage presence. I also don’t think his rendition of the rock classic was anything to write home about. I am glad he didn’t cry this time though.

Felicia Barton: Performed “No One” by Alicia Keys. Can anyone explain to me how she is here? What happened? She was cut then she’s in the Top 36?” Also her voice makes me think that she is the illegitimate love child of Alicia Keys and Nelly Furtado (if that were possible). I must say that she was definitely better at performing Alicia Keys when compared to Taylor Vaifanua. She has a chance of getting through.

Scott MacIntyre: Performed “Mandolin Rain” by Bruce Hornsby. I know he is one of the favorites of America with his “overcoming challenges” story, but I really don’t think he has the best voice in the competition. I am sure he will get through, but I wonder how long he will be around.

Kendall Beard: Performed “This One’s For the Girls” by Martina McBride. I really was pulling for her for some reason, but she definitely was a bit flat through most of the song. I don’t know if there is any hope for her to continue on.

Jorge Nunez: Performed “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down” by Elton John. I think he has a good voice, but I don’t think he was able to pull off the awesomeness that is Elton John. I guess we’ll find out what America thought sooner than later.

Lil Rounds: Performing “Be Without You” by Mary J. Blige. I think she picked a song that really meets her personality and she sang it very well. On top of that, she is probably one of the most personable contestants on the show this year. People like her. I like her. You do what you do so well Lil Rounds.

So this week, predicting the contestants that make it through is kind of tough. I would probably guess…Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre and Felicia Barton (but that third spot is really up for grabs).

Real Housewives NYCEp. “On Their High Horses”

This week was the first one where the ladies of New York didn’t have to compete with the women of Orange County. It worked in their favor since the OC women were such train wrecks.

So I really cannot decide who my favorite housewife of New York is. In the OC, Gretchen was my #1. In NYC, I thought it would be LuAnn; she seemed the most down to earth, but this season they are really making her look like a snooty bitch. I definitely hate Ramona. Bethenny and Jill are a bit too gossipy for me, and I cannot deal with the oddity that is Alex and Simon. Maybe this is why they added Kelly to the cast. She has potential of taking the place of the favorite housewife.

In relation to the episode, they must have decided to make this one the “health & wellness” week. Not only do they begin the episode with surf lessons, they also show LuAnn playing tennis, the women attending  boot camp,  a spa day with Simon and Alex, Kelly going horseback riding, and Bethenny and Jill going to the salon for hair cuts and facials before the “Tea Dance” gay party. Seriously, they should have just called it “Housewives for Health,” but listening to Jill at the class was hilarious. I also want to have Simon stop talking about not being gay. It seems like he is trying to over-compensate for the flack he got about his sexuality in season 1.

This episode was definitely better than last weeks, but it looks like the real drama will start next week. Keep your fingers crossed!

On Monday: Chuck, Heroes & The Bachelor

Monday is always an exciting day. No matter the promo, I cannot wait for Chuck and Heroes to air on NBC. On top of that, there is the season finale of The Bachelor where Jason Mesnick picks his future wife. YAY MONDAY!

ChuckEp. “Chuck Versus the Beefcake”

I am starting to get frustrated with the entire Chuck/Sarah relationship. I think Sarah is HOT! I also think that for the show, the tension between Sarah and Chuck is really sweet, and all I want is to have them really be together. I understand the whole don’t-mix-work-and-pleasure bit, but come on, let the man have some. And back off MI-6 agent, you can not “butter her muffin!”

Best Quote: “Come with me if you want to live.” The minute I heard it, I couldn’t help but think of the Govern-ator saying it, and then laugh incessantly. Oh, Arnold!

The torture scene was hilarious. I mean to watch Chuck whine over the chains, also know as the “pre-torture,” made me laugh out loud. Also the numerous little one-liners throughout the scene just helped the comedy.

In the end, Chuck and Sarah are moving in together! As a means of 24-hour protective custody of course.

HeroesEp. “Exposed”

One thing I liked about this episode was that Claire’s mom finally shows she isn’t some crazy woman with a dog named Mr. Muggles. She proves to Claire that she a savvy woman who’s extremely observant and smarter than expected. I wish she would show me that fake ID trick, haha. I could make a fortune!

Also, does anyone love the cheesy head-tilt thing that Peter and Matt use while they are “pushing thoughts” as much as I do? For some reason it makes me laugh every time. And of course, their Daphne rescue operation goes horribly wrong and Matt Parkman is taken into custody. In the same storyline, Peter is shot and then rescued by Nathan and the video of the government operation is leaked. It looks like Nathan and the government have a lot of work to do to keep the nature of the operation under wraps.

Is anyone else with me in wanting Sylar’s storyline to pick up? I want him to stop being this, “where’s my father?” person with a chip on his shoulder and kick some ass like he did in the older seasons. I initially really hated Sylar, which I imagine many people around the globe did, but as seasons progressed, I slowly have developed an understanding of him. I think you never approve of his actions, but you understand his motivation so his actions aren’t surprising. Kind of like an accepted evil. Also, how does Sylar’s father have the same murdering MO? Sylar had to steal that power to cut open people’s heads. Where did the father get it?!

Good episode, not the best. I hope this one picks up like the Chapter 3 did in the Fall.

The BachelorEp. “The Final Rose”

So I haven’t had a chance to watch this finale yet but I did find out who Jason Mesnik picked as his “future wife.” There is some speculation as to how she will adjust to her new life in Washington and to being the new woman in Ty’s life, but here she is…

Molly - Jason's Future Wife?

Molly - Jason's Future Wife?

I will give my actual commentary after I watch the episode this afternoon. I must say I was a big fan of Jillian and was really depressed that she didn’t get the final rose. So at this point I really didn’t care who he picked.

As a side note, I purchased Guitar Hero: World Tour yesterday. We will have to see if this has an affect on my TV habits and postings in the future. Only time will tell. All I know is that I will be rockin’ out like it’s my job!

On Saturday: Legend of the Seeker

Legend of the SeekerEp. “Revenant”

So this is kind of my guilty pleasure. I happened upon it one night at 3 in the morning and have been oddly hooked ever since. It airs at a strange time (4 pm central) on the CW so it doesn’t conflict with any of my Saturday night plans. The plot is a pretty derivative fantasy story: a small town boy is prophesied to defeat the great wizard tyrant and is joined by two companions who follow him on his quest. (Of course!)

The production value is very good. It was filmed in New Zealand so it had that whole “Lord of the Rings” feel to it. The special effects are pretty mediocre though.

This week, the “fellowship” heads to the Tomb of Kieran (a former Seeker) to hide the third piece of the Box of Orden, but while completing this task, Richard is possessed by Kieran’s spirit. After this, new light it shed on the legendary past of the former Seeker: oppression, love, hate, resentment, revenge, dishonor. Later, Kahlan’s body is possessed by Vivian (former Confessor) and Zeddicus Z’ul has to figure out how to remove the spirits from their possessed bodies and get them out of the tomb within which they are trapped.

It definitely wasn’t the most exciting episode to date, but it did put the theoretical cost of fulfilling one’s destiny into question. And make us contemplate the price of abandoning one’s duty in the pursuit of love?

On Friday: Dollhouse

So Friday is kind of my break from TV. If you have been following me through the week, you would understand it’s a break that’s truly warranted. But even with it being my break night, I still have to watch something…

DollhouseEp. “Stage Fright”

So I like this show. I don’t love it, but I like it. I think the concept is pretty intriguing and I have historically been a Whedon fan. Buffy. Firefly. Stardust. He just seems to have a knack to write the fantastical story with a strange twist on normalcy. Dollhouse is no exception: a mysterious private company who’s contracted to provide a person to meet the clients every need; the imprinting of memories into “actives” to create the perfect product; a police investigator, Ballard, attempting to uncover the ethically-questionable organization; and an active, Echo, who might be malfunctioning slightly (which Dollhouse doesn’t like to see). It’s just strange enough.

This week, within the music industry introspective we witnessed, we were made aware that Lubov (Ballard’s informant) is actually an “active” being used by the company to throw his investigation off track. Apart from that insane plot twist, not much else happened. The “mission” of the episode, where Echo worked as a back-up singer with a bodyguard twist, was all a bit contrived and emotionally lackluster. The overarching story got a bit more complex (which I like), but apart from that, episode 3 was not the best.

The other thing I like about this show is that it is the second experimental subject of FOX’s revolutionary, “Remote-Free TV.” Its a commercial media strategy where FOX can charge companies premium prices for commercials during their more popular programming. FOX can do this because have reduced the number of spaces significantly (which also give us about 6 extra minutes of our show), but it’s just supply-and-demand bitches. Now the break is short enough that it isn’t worth the effort to reach for the remote and fast-forward through to the commercials. Genious.

On Thursday: Ugly Betty, Idol, Hell’s Kitchen & Matchmaker

So a few of the regulars (and my Thursday favorites) weren’t running today. Typically, I would be looking forward to new episodes of Smallville, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and The Office (of course!). Oddly enough, even without those shows on today, I still had Ugly Betty, Hell’s Kitchen, American Idol Results, Millionaire Matchmaker, 30 Rock, The Eleventh Hour and Survivor: Tocantins. With such a TV listing tonight, I have decided to only comment on a select few…

Ugly BettyEp. “Things Fall Apart”

So the big surprise of the episode is that Betty discovers that Connor Owens has been skimming off the top. To tell you the truth, I am actually surprised to find out that Connor is an embezzling bastard and glad. I am glad because I thought the show was losing its edge, and this plot twist reinvigorated the comedy-driven drama.

Also, in the midst of this corporate drama, I am excited to see that Betty has a new love interest, Matt. He got his foot in the door last week when he partnered with Betty for a YETI project, and this week they went on their “first date.” It kind of ended in disaster when Betty ditched him (accidentally) while going to the ATM.

Thank God the show is starting to pick up again.

American IdolEp. “Second 12 of 36 Results”

The results shows are always hard for me to get through because of how much Seacrest they put on it. I cannot stand Seacrest. I did, however, like the way they announced the top 3. Instead of the painstaking process of hearing the results for each contestant individually, a set of contestants were placed on the stage and within the set one of the people got ot move on to the Top 12. Here’s who America selected:

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert

Allison Iraheta

Allison Iraheta

Kris Allen

Kris Allen

It is amazing how on I was about the contestants from last night’s episode. I am definitely glad Allison Iraheta made it through rather than one of the other women; she definitely was the best one of them last night. I think of the men, they were definitely easy to predict after watching those performances.

Hell's KitchenEp. “13 Contestants Compete”

I don’t know about all of you out there but I am a HUGE fan of Gordon Ramsey; he’s definitely better than that bastard Jamie Oliver. In relation to Hell’s Kitchen, I have been watching i since Season 1 and have seen quite a few idiots go though the show as well a few culinary masters. The one thing about this show is that I think these contestants are probably not nearly as talented as the chefs that are on Bravo’s Top Chef.

This week the contestants had to cook breakfast for a dining room full of youth cheerleaders and football players and the Red (women) team won. In the dinner service challenge, each team had numerous problems and in the end, Gordon decided to have members of both teams up for elimination. By the grace of God, Seth was the one booted off. I haven’t liked him from episode 1 and I am happy I won’t have to see him again on the show.

In other news, the troublemaker teammate Lacey D’Angelo was moved to the Blue (men’s) team. It is going to be interesting to see if she turns her act around or if it was her who was to blame for he Red Teams problems.

And if you have BBC America and you are not watching Gordon Ramsey’s The F Word, you are seriously missing out.

Millionaire MatchmakerEp. “Laurence & Andrew”

On Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker, Patty took on another two millionaire clients: Laurence and Andrew. Here is what I think about them:

picture-15Laurence Zwirn is a 39-year-old owner and CEO of the vitamin company, Nature’s Purest, and a total extrovert who says whatever is on his mind. I thought he was quite a pig. First, he isn’t able to secure a date from any of the women in the mixer but is lucky to get a date with Marrissa, who seems to be hurten for love. On the date, he seems to only focus on the girls figure and then he proceeds to get her wasted on champagne and vodka. Not really the gentlemen thing to do. To top it all off, Laurence gets very angry with Marrissa after she denies his invitation to join him in Vegas. Get a life dude.

picture-21Andrew Stern is a 34-year-old advertising executive who recently started an Internet company called Rip Lounge, and an introvert who never approaches girls on his own, a major flaw in Patti’s opinion. He definitely was that guy who can do anything he wanted with his career but one who freezes when he is in a room with women. With some of Patty’s help he was able to get going in the mixer and ended up dating Ashley. He took her on a nice picnic in California and they swapped some spit. It turns out that they are still dating. You go Andrew.

This is all I am going to blog about tonight. It is going to be really difficult to decide on what shows to comment on when the entire schedule is running. I guess only future will tell.

On Wednesday: Lost, Damages, Top Chef & Idol

I am going to warn you now…this is going to be a long one.

Well initial promos said that America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 12 was supposed to start today, but I believe that with American Idol’s move this week to ANTM’s normal time slot (on another network, mind you) made them afraid to compete with the reality tv giant. Instead, we can expect ANTM’s return next Wednesday, March 4th, for a 2 hour premiere. But for me, other shows hold the spot for most anticipated of the night. Lost, Damages and Top Chef finale are definitely highest on my list.

LostEp. “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham”

So this show has had it’s ups and downs for me. It came on really strong with the first two seasons, somewhat lost its luster in the third season, then regained some ground with season 4. Now we are in season 5 and it has so far been absolutely amazing. The enigma that is the island continues to become more complex and it is impossible to determine what is going to happen next.

This episode centered around John Locke (Alias: Jeremy Bentham) and his mission to get off the island, and it started with giving the audience a number of new questions. I am talking about when Locke tells that woman on the beach what he remembers: “I think this suit is what they were going to bury me in…I remember dying.” Does this mean he is talking to that woman in the present? How does he come back to life? Why isn’t he with the other cast on the island? What is going on?!

After Locke has gone through the “exit,” he is rushed to a Tunisian hospital and visited by none other than Charles Whitmore. Turns out Whitmore was once the leader of the Others and was exiled by Ben in the past. Also, it appears that Whitmore decided to help Locke get the Oceanic Six to go back because of an impending war on the island. What war?!

On his mission, Locke initially goes to Santo Domingo to see Sayid, then he goes and checks on Walt in New York City (he apparently still has some sort of weird psychic thing going on). Hurley was next and their meeting was pretty entertaining; Hugo thinks Locke is another dead man vision. Next, it was Kate and then Jack. He was initially unsuccessful in convincing any of them to return.

The episode closes with the discovery that Locke was actually murdered by Ben, Locke is somehow alive again and is with the other survivors of the plane crash that happened in last week’s episode, and Ben is among the injured survivors.

Good episode and I can’t wait for next Wednesday.

DamagesEp. “They Had to Tweeze That Out of My Kidney”

The storyline of this show is so complex it is going to be difficult to provide an intelligible commentary. As a result, I am going to believe that you are as addicted to this show as I am and that you understand the history of the characters and the events that preceded this episode.

The episode was a good one (but let’s be honest, they all are) and the story line progressed substantially. I really hope Ellen discovers Wes’s secret moleness soon and that it is him she puts a bullet into in the flash-forward clips. Although, I would still be happy if Detective Messer was the one on the business end of the revolver.

At the end, we find out that Uncle Pete’s dirt on Patty gets back to Ellen Parsons and a confrontation takes place 3 months in the future. It seems like that is going to be quite the scene when we get to see the whole thing at the end of the season. But is it Patty Hewes who Ellen shoots? Only time will tell.

Top ChefEp. “Season Finale – Part 2”

I love this show, and this was quite an interesting finale. We have the bitter rivalry that has developed between Hosea and Stephan and then the kooky antics of Carla to entertain us thoroughly. Before the episode aired, I wanted Carla to win. I think Hosea is boring, Stephan is a cocky, Finnish bastard who needs to be deported, and Carla is the person who really cooks for the right reasons. She puts the luv in her food as she would put it.

For the episode, Tom Colicchio made the Elimination Challenge very simple: “Cook us the best three course meal of your life.” I like that direction because it really lets the cooks showcase who they are without the constraints of crazy challenge guidelines. Of course, halfway through the challenge, Tom presented them with a twist. Each of the chefs had to cook a 4th course hors d’oeuvre using one of three local proteins: red fish, blue crab and alligator. I am from Florida, so alligator isn’t a new thing for me, but I LOVE that Hosea stuck Stephan with it (and he was pissed).

Unfortunately, Carla lost her point-of-view and didn’t cook “her food,” so she sadly checked herself out of the competition. It ended up with Hosea and Stephan facing each other head-to-head for the title of Top Chef.

And the winner is…

Winner of Top Chef - Hosea Rosenberg

Winner of Top Chef - Hosea Rosenberg

I didn’t want him to win, but at least it wasn’t Stephan!

American IdolEp. “Second 12 of 36”

So the second set of 12 contestants performed to get a spot in the Top 12. And for a second week in a row, song choice seemed to be the monster that crushed the contestants’ dreams.

Jasmine Murray: Performed “Love Song” by Sarah Bareilles. She definitely had some issues with the song. I am going to steal a line from Randy: “It was really pitchy, dawg.” The lower portions of the song were definitely not in a comfortable register and the chorus was obviously not soulful enough for her. She definitely tried to take a simple, pretty song and make it “unique,” but she did not succeed.

Matt Giraud: Performed “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay. He needs some work with his breathing, he sounded like he was out of breath the entire time. The performance wasn’t the worst I have heard in Idol history, but the panting he did while he was singing really deterred me from getting into the song. He said he was trying to put a soulful/bluesy twist on Coldplay and I can say that didn’t work. Judges agreed with me.

Jeanine Vailes: Performed “This Love” by Maroon5. Let’s start with OMG overkill! The runs were almost unbearable, but when she went into an upper register, it sometimes sounded “aight.” But she does have nice legs.

Nick “Norman Gentle” Mitchell: Performed “And I’m Telling You, I’m Not Going” by Dreamgirls/Jennifer Hudson. I don’t know how every one else feels about him, but I think he is hilarious. He definitely has a voice and his humor makes the less perfect parts acceptable. I also loved that he interjected little comments throughout the song, like “Doogie” when he saw Niel Patrick Harris in the audience. Hilarity.

Allison Iraheta: Performed “Alone” by Heart. She was the first one of the night that selected a song that fit her image and voice. I thought she performed the 1980’s infamously bad karaoke rock ballad well even though it is a hard song to sing. She hasn’t had that much face time on the show so it will be interesting to see if she can make it through.

Kris Allen: Performed “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. After I heard the song choice I didn’t have much hope for this contestant, but I have to say, he did a pretty good job. The beginning of the song was definitely a bit weak, but the second half was good. Also, the girls are going to love him.

Megan Courkrey: Performed “Put Your Records On” by Corrine Bailey Rae. She was quite awkward on the stage; her body motions seemed like a 4-year-old singing for their parents in the living room (you know what I’m talking about). Also, she didn’t seem to hit all the notes, but she has more of an identity than some of the other contestants. Personally, not a fan.

Matt Breitzke: Performed “If You Could Only See” by Tonic. I think the major thing missing in the performance was that little bit of grit in the voice that this song needs. His performance was a bit corny and boring. He was in tune and I think America likes him so he has a chance of going through.

Jesse Langseth: Performed “Betty Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes. I really like this singer. She has a really interesting tone that seems really relevant in today’s music industry where singers like Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele going platinum. I’m not sure what her fate is.

Kai Kalama: Performed “What Becomes of a Broken Hearted” by Jimmy Ruffin. First, he seriously needs to get that hair in check…SERIOUSLY! Second, I thought he sounded old and irrelevant in his performance. He can sing, but it was just old.

Mishavonna Henson: Performed “Drops of Jupiter” by Train. She definitely can sing and she sang this song well, but I think there are better ones for her. Simon thinks she is too mature. Who knows with this one.

Adam Lambert: Performed “Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones. He has an interestingly high voice for a male singer, but I think I like it. For me, he definitely was the most highly anticipated contestant to hear this week. And holy crap, he could give Deep Purple a run for their money with the rocker scream. I think he is a surefire Top 12.

My prediction for tomorrow night: Adam Lambert, Mishavonna Henson (but Allison Iraheta could be a spoiler) and Kris Allen.

I also watched Life on Mars, but this post seriously needs to end.

On Tuesday: The Housewives & State of the Union

Tuesdays are usually my slower night, especially with Fringe being on hiatus until April 7th (What is with that!). However, even with Fringe gone, I would be typically awaiting the riveting performances of the Top 36 on American Idol or the Aussie awesomeness that is Simon Baker in The Mentalist, but this week the auditions were moved to Wednesday night and the Mentalist went missing due to Obama’s State of the Union.

State of the UnionPresident Obama’s State of the Union Address

First, I must give you guys the number. President Obama received 67 breaks for applause during the speech. In relation to the content, Obama seemed to really convey a sense of optimism. He seems to have that hopeful fervor that we fell in love with during the election, and he finally started to lay out his plan for the future: economic, environmental, etc. Now, one of my favorite moments was when Obama gave that little dig at Bush’s administration with the “debt we inherited” portion of the speech. It made me laugh. You rock, Barack.

But not all of TV was ruined, we were able to be graced with a double dose of the suburban drama that is The Real Housewives…

Real Housewives of OCEp. “The Housewives Confess”

So after the promos, there was a lot of hype surrounding this episode. Boy, they did not disappoint! To start, Jeff lost his battle with Leukemia in September and I really do feel bad for Gretchen and the heartbreak that comes with missing a loved one. And to that point, I really hate Vicki and Tamra for their horrible accusations and cold-heartedness towards the entire situation. If they watched the show, they would realize that the love was there and to berate Gretchen about their relationship would be seriously emotionally trying. Gretchen, I love you!

Second, the awkward tension between the other housewives (minus Gretchen) and Lynne could be cut with a knife. The worst part was when Lynne started to cry after Jeana said, “I had a Lynn moment, you know like ‘whoa, where am I?'” I really don’t think Lynne is a dumb or stupid woman, but I don’t completely agree with her parenting tactics. Give that kid a kick in the ass and make her get a real job. Seriously!

Third, there was the revisiting of the infamous night when Tamra decided to get Gretchen “naked wasted” at the dinner party. Ladies of the O.C. remember, “tequila makes your clothes fall off!” Now during the reunion episode, Tamra gave a really fake apology to Gretchen and it seems like there is still a little tension there.

And oh the scandal! Who is this J? Tamra seriously accused Gretchen of dating another man behind Jeff’s back. It really made my pulse quicken because you could see that Gretchen was blindsided by this story. I don’t know what the story is or who is telling the truth (everyone has ghosts in their closet), but I do believe that Tamra is a poisonous person who is attacking Gretchen on national television out of shear jealously. Also, where’s the harm in a booty call? Sometimes people need one to cope with the hurt.

All in all, season 4 ended up being pretty entertaining and dramatic. I’m not going to lie, I will probably be watching season 5 when it starts next year.

Real Housewives NYCEp. “Hamptons Retreat…But No Surrender”

Following The Real Housewives of Orange County reunion, this episode was a bit lack luster. There were some parties in the Hamptons, relationship advice for Bethenny, some beach activities, some shopping and a cancer society benefit. But this show is really going to have to turn up the notch if it wants to keep up with the intense OC women. I must say though, I literally laughed out loud when Bethenny comment about Countess LuAnn de Lesseps. Quote: “That was not very countess. In fact, that was dis-countess.” Hilarity.

So this Tuesday wasn’t the most exciting, but tomorrow we have Lost, Top Chef finale, Life on Mars and American Idol auditions. Damn you American Idol! Moving to Wednesday is going to completely destroy my Thursday lineup. But I fast-forward through the entire results show anyway since I HATE Ryan Seacrest.

On Monday: Chuck, Heroes & True Beauty

Let’s start this with, I watch a lot of television. Most people I know have about two or three shows they watch religiously, whereas watching two or three shows would probably be a slow night for me.

Chuck Ep. “Chuck Versus the Best Friend”

So I have watched Chuck since the beginning and it has definitely had it’s ups and downs, but this week–with white phosphorous tennis ball grenades, mint knock-out Banaka, Buy More spy tactics, wedding planning and lonely Morgan–Chuck seemed to be in many places this week. Of course this show always attempts to humorously show the turmoils of Chuck maintaining his “work/life balance;” however, this time it seemed that dealing with the Triad trying to kill the ambassador (work) was an afterthought.  I would say that the Rolls-Royce versus Nerd Herd hybrid car chase with cuts to lady-on-lady combat was pretty entertaining  though. In the end, Anna and Morgan are back together (awwwh), Chuck and Sarah are starting to really connect (AWWWH!) and let’s not deny it, Jeffster needs to start touring.

HeroesEp. “Chapter 4: Cold Wars”

I am what one may call a Heroes fan. I watch the webisodes and, no matter how good or bad the season is, I await every Monday night with bated breath to see what might happen next with the Man in Horn-Rimmed Glasses or the powered people (Hiro, Peter, Matt, Claire, Mohinder, etc). I have so far found “Vol. 4: Fugitives” to be quite engaging. I wonder if part of that can be attributed to Bryan Fuller’s return to the show as a consultant.

This week they decided to show us how Noah started working with Nathan following the events of  Vol. 3. Maybe they are trying to make us not despise him like we did in Vol. 1. Of course they go with the sentimental “dad will do anything to save his daughter” bit, but I don’t think it makes him any less of a monster. He is destroying people’s lives rather than fighting against the injustices of the operation. You would think that after all the time that has passed since season 1 he would finally care about more people than Claire. And are they implying that he joined Nathan’s operation because he was bored? Quote: “I can only do so many crossword puzzles.”

All in all, this chapter wasn’t the most exciting of the volume but it did let the audience see the events that transpired over the two month gap since Vol. 3’s finale. It also let us see that Matt Parkman is not as noble as he was portrayed in previous seasons. His telepathic interrogation of Noah was sometimes disturbing to watch. And I do like that Daphne is alive and there are definitely some intriguing twists at the end that I can’t wait to understand.

P.S. – I love that Dante Basco (Rufio from the 1991 movie Hook) is the comic store clerk in the TurboTax/NBC commercial during Heroes.

True BeautyEp. “Finale”

To tell the truth, I don’t know why I watch this show, but now after watching the whole season, I had to find out who wins and gets their photo in People magazine’s “Most Beautiful People” issue. With this show, I think the most difficult thing to get past is the horribly scripted judges. Rather than giving an in depth commentary, I think I will just give you all the highlights and the winner.

1. Sound effect: goop goop sound when Julia talks about the amount of eyelash glue she has used to cover up her eyelash extensions
2. Sound effect: ching sound when Joel smiled at the People editor and guess judge, Jess Cagle
3. Joel Rush telling Jess Cagle that the question of where he was from was easy but then forgetting to answer the question. AWKWARD!
4. Gloopy, oil-covered, seminude photo shoot
5. Final three staring at a stack of chocolates trying to figure out that they are supposed to go downstairs. Turn the letter over, nincompoops!
6. The men deciding that they had to cry in the Hall of Beauty to get up to par with Julia’s heartfelt confession the night before.

And the winner is…

Winner of True Beauty - Julia Anderson

Winner of True Beauty - Julia Anderson

I also watched The Bachelor (“Women Tell All” episode) and TNT’s new series, Trust Me (which is seriously under-rated) but I think this blog entry is getting too long.
